Easter Saturday

We find nature has a way of reminding us about life.    I think these lilies show and remind us of the sad and horrible day of the crucifixion   and the amazing light and brightness of the coming resurrection of Jesus on Easter Sunday morning.    I would love to send each of you a special plant for your Easter table but you will have to be satisfied with the picture.

At this time of life most of my 'girl' friends are gone on to bigger and better things.   I have one left who would appreciate spending some quality time with me and if we could get down under the table  we would need more than a cup of tea to get up off that floor.    We'd change it to a bottle of wine  poured into a fancy glass and be glad the chair is handy  so we could get up again.  Ah, friends, what would we do without them!

Pat and Erin, enjoy the day.

A truism for sure.   How many of us know how hard it is to control our hair;  it just has a mind of its own.

A lovely picture taken by Angie of the sun setting on Good Friday.    how beautiful and peaceful.  A quiet time of day.

Here it is Easter Saturday, took forty days of lent to get here and we can all celebrate tomorrow.  Time to do some shopping today for that Easter basket.    The stores have every kind of candy you can imagine and the prices are set as if you were buying gold.    I tried to find white chocolate and all that was on the shelf was a tiny bunny.  Wonder where all the big white chocolate is, not much around this Easter.    I did find a lovely ham and asparagus to have if someone decides to darken my door.    I will have to ride over to the Port and check out the candy store and see if  they have some.     So catch up with yourself today and get ready to celebrate Easter Sunday.   Don't forget a flower in your Easter bonnet;   a smile in your eyes as you share many hugs for the day.    Ham or Spring lamb, the choice is yours, so whet the appetite and celebrate. Hugs to all.

GOOD FRIDAY

Strange exotic flowers, lightening bolts fill the skies around the world.  It is Friday;  named Good Friday, a day of quiet as we once again walk the path and follow the twelve stations of the cross.    A good day to visit a church nearby.   A good day to think about the person you have become.   A good day to follow your heart. Go, sit quietly and think about the good deeds you can accomplish this day.   Ask and you will receive;   knock and the door will open.   Get down on your knees and pray for strength against adversity.    Greet your family and friends with a soft smile and a big hug today.  Hugs to all.

Different

Eatable Flowers.   Yum.   I wouldn't mind digging into this bowl.

More flowers . . . nope . . . just a few feathers floating in the breeze.    I'd like to meet up with a few of those birds.

This picture had to do with riding the back roads  and find beauty and quiet.    It reminded me of some trips out with my friend Helen when we would ride into the back roads of Nevada in the spring looking for wild flowers. I wrote a little poem about that.

Wildflowers

Riding up old 88, a route to Markleville/the road side over flowing with ancient rabbit brush/
in between are wild flowers/all names I do not know/ they take your breath away/as they set the fields aglow.
I see a purple thistle, majestic I would say/ some white and yellow daisies/ or at least they look that way/The Indian paint brush is colorful to see/but what is that gorgeous flower/that stands so tall and straight/it looks like a sentinel tending Heaven's gate./ no matter where you eye looks/as springtime comes along/there are hundreds of wild flowers/right where they belong.

We did find a rushing river, just like the picture and enjoyed a wonderful memory making day.

Remember these?    Bobby pins.    We used to set our hair and sleep on these.   Oh what we did to look beautiful.    I think I have a box filled with these in my bathroom drawer.  What I am saving them for I don't know.  You can be sure I will not pin my hair up ever again.   Short and sweet is so much easier.
Here it is Thursday all over again;  how fast the days go bye.    Time to think of a menu for Easter Sunday.   Some like ham, other like lamb, me, I like both.    I haven't made up my mind, but. leaning towards ham and veggie omelet for Easter breakfast.   I may even have a hot cross bun.    So think of your menu, make your list and go shopping so you can celebrate Easter Morning with a feast of your own.
Don't forget your good deed for today.   Put on your happy face and get out there and enjoy the day.  Hugs to all.

Humor

At first I thought of grapes, then tangerines, even strawberries but never a flower.  Nature is filled with surprises.    I wonder what they really are.

The political cartoonist are right on the ball.   They never miss a chance to let us know what is going on.

Hopefully the next voting session will show we are Americans and stand together to get rid of those who would make us less.

and 'he' changes the goal post at every chance he can and gets away with it.

Harry has lost his wits but Pope Francis seems to have developed one.

Hump day and it is cold around here.    We have had wind and that seems to bring the Chetco effect home to roost.    There was a lot of white caps on the ocean yesterday.    I am not very good at fixing things anymore but tried my hand at screwing in a couple of loose screws on the garden gate.  It is so old it is falling apart , not just the screws and hinge but the entire gate.   Hopefully son Michael will fix it when he comes, maybe a new gate is in order.    My honey due list is growing, and both sons asked what I want for my birthday...they are kidding right?    I want a handy man, a gardener, a chef and a maid to do all that Katrina the Great used to do.  Ah, that old adage or saying of long ago . . . "I used to."   Once upon a time, back in the good old days.....smile.

You made it half way so get the rest of the week in order and finish up those chores you started.  Easter Sunday is three days away....yeah, a special day to celebrate a small victory if you stayed the course in giving something up for lent.   It is not as easy as it sounds.    But . . . it does give you a feeling of accomplishment and a sense of pride.

Make today worthwhile.    Put on your sunshine smile and rev up those arms for a hug or two.    Finish up your Easter surprises and don't forget to add a white chocolate bunny to your basket and one of those dark chocolates to go along with it.    Put a flower in your bonnet and remember to light a candle for those in need and say a prayer for our service men and women.  You can do it.    Light a half dozen candles and brighten up your world.     Hugs to all.

Awesome

Layers of Life . . . magical.

In case you missed seeing the blood moon.  A beautiful picture of the lily fields as well.

An attachment came in yesterday with pictures and a story about Tippi Degre, the only daughter  of  Sylvie and Alain Degre, wild life photographers who lived in Africa where Tippi was born and brought up.  They published a book called  "Tippie of Africa".    The animals were Tippi's playmates and she grew up in what she described as a magical place and was free in a natural environment.   She is now twenty-three and a beautiful young lady.   I cannot even imagine being that close to wild life;  a mouse is scary to me and a garden snake sends me running.

The house is cold this morning.  We had sunshine yesterday but it was cold out.    I had 'maids' day in and got some necessary things done around here but it was nice to start a new read.  I did work on the fused glass puzzle and it is coming along very slow but sure.  It may take more time than I think, but at least it is slowly filling in.   I'll take a picture and show you the monster when I do finish it.

How lucky we are that Jock has a garden and shares.  He brought in some chard and spinach that cooks up to a delectable dish.   I made a jean dish yesterday, put the spinach leaves in a baking dish, added a half cup of water, some strips of yellow and red peppers, some favorite seasonings and a big pork chop, covered it and baked it in a slow oven and it was delectable and delicious.  I baked a potato along side and enjoyed my dinner  along with  a big spoon of Marcia's delicious lumpy apple sauce.  I saved the juice and will do it again today with the chard.  Speaking of food, I'm off to have my coffee and wake up.   Go, wake up, smell the flowers and share YOU with those you love.   Make a new friend today just because you can.  That smile gets them every time.   Hugs to all.

New Week

A very unusual flower, looks like an Easter basket.

Someone is going to take a huge kidding about spelling.

Sally  keeps us apprised of what is happening in Port Orchard .  I didn't see this bakery when I visited, but I did see a great one in one of the towns when Sheila and I had our day away.   It was hard to not buy a little bit of everything.    I am a bread eater and love to try new and different ones.  It looks like I will shop here next trip up to visit Christine.

A very good idea and that goes for all those other little 'doohickeys'  before verbal conversation goes out of style.

Um  . . . wonder if there is a recycle bin around here  I could use.

Here it is Monday again, a new week to sharpen up those ideas of what to do and not to do this week.   I have a big plastic bag filled with dead garden debris but need to spend hours clearing out the garden only to find I need a trip to a recycle bin in order to do it.   All of those chores that we groused about over the years become a lost cause as the body cannot cooperate and do all of those easy movements of walking on stones, bending, pulling and working a pitch folk;  A song comes to mind . . . 'The old gray mare ain't what she used to be....'    I need to give in gracefully, but  who wants to be graceful when there is work to be done outside in the lovely warm sunshine.

Did you have a good weekend?  I hope so.    I had a strawberry blintz yesterday and did not call it a desert.  It was part of a breakfast buffet and I left the small cinnamon buns alone .  The last week of lent and I am ready for that trip to a bakery I talked about.   I am thinking about one of those buttermilk donuts, although I might just wait for a piece of that razzle dazzle pie.    It must be time for my coffee as food is on my mind.  So off I go and wish you were here to share some breakfast with me....blueberry pancakes, some of Pat's delicious granola, a dropped egg on toast. . . you choose, I'll cook.   I even have a hug or two I'll share.    If you can't make it, then call someone in and share some breakfast with them . . .and a hug or two.  Hugs to all.

HolyWeek

The serious business of Holy Week, the blessing of the palms, holy water and visiting your favorite church and follow the stations of the cross.    It was serious business for us as children and we learned very early how to prepare for Easter Sunday.  Believe me, it had nothing to do with bunnies, baskets and candy . . . we had a soul to save and it was our own.

The color of lent.

So today, think about YOU and be glad that you are alive and can count your blessings.

A lovely picture of the after effects of wind and water on the sand.   Angie took this picture up at her new home in Newport, Oregon.   She and her two puppies have been roaming the beach and enjoying a walk on the beach.

Palm Sunday it is, a week to go and Easter Sunday will be here.   Daughter Patricia and I have been working in her garage to prepare for the upcoming city wide yard sales so it means a lot of work to get her garage to look like a 'junk' shop filled with 'treasures' you cannot live without.    It proved to be a warm sunshine day and one of the neighbors was having a yard sale, so we decided to open the doors and see what would happen....we had folks stop in  and lucky for us, found something to take home with them.    We met some nice people and it is one of the redeeming factors of having a 'yard sale'.   Now we have to get busy and add a few more items we want to get rid of and start to revamp the garage so it looks like a place to find a special piece or book.   It is days like this we wish the garage was much larger , but if it was we would still be complaining of how little room we had.    I've been down loading some of my treasures so will have to take them over and see what the big citywide sale can do about helping us to make room for new treasures.    If you haven't been to a yard sale lately, well get ready and go.  You will be amazed at what you will find that you just cannot live without.   Go with a smile on your face, and a light step, a firm shake to your hand and a small word of praise helps to make a brighter day.  Happy hunting.    Hugs to all.
