Crosses

Hill of Crosses in Lithuania

Rosaries rattle in the wind as people come from all over the world to visit a shrine that  has proved to be endless.

A pathway through crosses

The folks of Lithuania  choose to try harder.

After the uprising against Russia in 1831, with no bodies to bury, over 200,000 crosses were set  up.  Again, the Soviet occupation in 1944-1991,  the crosses were a symbol of defiance against communist regime.   The Soviets bulldozed the hill but locals and pilgrims erected crosses again.  Rosaries rattle in the wind.  Put this stop on your 'bucket list' and take a small cross to add to the hillside.

The weekend is here, the temperature went up to ninety and the rain storms passed  us by.   No accounting for weather;  we get it whether we like it or not .    Marcia brought over some delicious apple sauce.  She and Jim have been on a no let up job for days as the apples are ripe on the trees and her neighbors generous in the giving department.   They had three wheel barrows full of delicious apples and had a call yesterday that there was another ready.   Both look exhausted but there is no way they will let an apple go to waste.  This group goes into pies and apple cakes.  I was given some apples this past week so made a pie for Erin, one of her favorites and I called my neighbor to tell her I had an apple turnover in the oven with her name on it.  It  didn't take her but a minute to reach my front door.   Fall, a miraculous time of  year.  Get up, get out and enjoy it.  Don't forget  one good deed today and light up the world with your smile.  Hugs to all.
