This was a surprise picture as Mary Beth had a few pictures with her to show us where the Sullivan family lived when the first five children were born. When I visited Newport with Aunty Eileen some years ago she brought me over to the Point , as it is called, and showed me a different house so they must have moved more than once. There was also mentioned a house on Farewell street where the cemetery was next to the house and Aunty told tales of the children sneaking out and playing hide and go seek behind the tomb stones.
How very important family history is. How wonderful it is to know all of those fabulous folks who came from other countries to make a new and better life for themselves and their children. So much history is lost when the old timers didn't tell more, or that the younger generation didn't ask more. I hope you will take time and effort to discover where you came from and pass the 'history' on to your children. Just think of the tales you will have to tell and maybe a secret or two will unfold. Besides, it will give you something special to do with your seconds. Maybe you can plot and plan a trip to the country they came from and see for yourselves where all that stamina, love and beauty comes from. Go, shuffle through those pictures and old letters and see what you can find. I guarantee it will bring a big smile to your face. Hugs to all. |
