More

Erin and her friend had a scarf tying session before she left for home.

These were some of the subjects Erin covered yesterday when we talked about her five months in Guyana.

Erin lost thirty pounds and had a field day yesterday trying on old clothes that she had left behind.  It was such fun for her to fit into clothing that she saved in hopes of wearing some day and the day arrived as she gave us a fashion show.   She had cute shoes she bought in Italy and had not worn.  A pair of jeans she wore in high school and they fit perfectly.  Her favorite sweater and she was ready for some real food, so we went out for fish tacos.

Here is a picture Angie took up in the Newport area.   She takes her two little dogs out for a walk on the beach every evening after working all day.

Here are some clam shells she found.

Here is Joseph, Judy's grandson showing off his cap.  Look at those eyes, what a cutie.  His great grandmother Helen and his aunt Kathy are driving out to Colorado to meet him.

A wonderful yesterday with Erin and Pat popping in and out, then off to one of our favorite restaurant s for  fish tacos.  This time I tried fish enchiladas and it is going to be a new favorite.   I didn't leave a flower on the  plate.   Darlene and Peat joined us and Erin brought along her beautiful Guyana book for us to look at.   She is adjusting to our 'cold' after her tropical stay.    Her skin is like velvet from all the moisture of the tropical Guyana.  Erin was telling us about the water shortage and how it is cut off at night.  The electricity is erratic as well.    Life is very different there, slow service or no service and no menus in restaurants.   There is a lot of gold there and she said one of the big hotel chains has just put up a huge edifice  changing the sky line.   Wonder what they know! There is a lot of work that needs to be done to change life for the deaf as they are treated poorly.  The needs are great and she is hoping the Peace Corps will find ways to bring in a team effort to help bring about  a new life style for these folks.  Her last care package had not arrived so she signed it over to the Peace Corp folks to share with some of her friends she left behind.   I'd like to be there to see their faces when they get  a peek at what we put in that box.  There will be more tales to tell.  Life is so different in other parts of our world.   We are finding that out each day as we see and hear the news.

We had a bit of a heat wave yesterday as it went up into the seventies.    I did a bit of watering and the grass has turned a lovely shade of yellow.    If I could afford it, this would be the perfect time to take it all up and put in some nice patio bricks.   The bushes and flowers were happy to get a drink, and the pesky weeds are thriving along with a lot of ivy that wants to take over.   All in all the yard is in good shape for the shape it is in.    So today, a good deed, a hug or two for a friend in need and time out for you to spend as you please.   The last of August coming up, hard to believe.   Be good, be kind, be gentle and smile a lot.  Hugs to all.
